Project Description:

This design would be a significant iconic marker to elevate the image and profile of Grenville – asserting its presence for an improved urban environment.

With the understanding that the town of Grenville is at sea level on the windward coast, the main drivers for site planning include mitigating the perennial risk of flooding and achieving an optimum balance between competing requirements for providing on-site parking and ease of access / egress for all three components of the building program. The facility to serve as a destination for a variety of commercial activities (banking, government business, library), increasing the project’s value and importance as an integral part of the urban fabric of Grenville.

To optimize the site and create a sustainable and commercially viable property to enhance the urban fabric, the project is conceived as a town center. It would provide civic space in the form of an elevated plaza for public gatherings, which presently does not exist.

Importantly, the project would preserve the historical landmark of one of Grenville’s few remaining Georgian buildings. Sadly, for years many of Grenada’s historical buildings have been lost through a perpetual cycle of destruction, due in part to a lack of appreciation of their cultural value and inadequate legislation that would provide the necessary protection.
